Goal: To integrate Google Tag Manager with a Squarespace website.
Ideal outcome: when this is set up correctly and without any problems.
Prerequisites: All Squarespace plans—aside from the “Personal” plan—work with this.
Why it is significant: Without having to change the website’s source code, Google Tag Manager is a fantastic tool for adding and managing various pixels and tracking codes.
Where this is done: In Tag Manager and your Squarespace admin panel.
When to do this: Just once, when you initially install Google Tag Manager.
That person is: the person in charge of analytics or website administration.
Environment Setup for google tag manager
Install the Google Tag Assistant Chrome Extension by downloading it (Free)
Obtain the container code for Tag manager .
- In the event that you do not yet have a account:
1. Join Tag Manager for free:
a. To continue, you must sign into your Google account.
b. A Tag Manager account creation prompt will appear immediately away.
You can simply name both the account and the container after your business or website.
2. Choose “Web” under “Where to Use Containers.”
3. The terms and conditions are accepted.
4. Your Manager code will be visible.

You will see another code snippet underneath the previous one. Copy that as well because you will need it for the following chapter.
5. Click Submit > Publish > Continue to publish your Tag Manager container once you are in your Workspace:
- If you currently use Tag Manager:
1. Enter your login information;
2. Click “Admin” and “Install Google Tag Manager” in the top header.
3. You will need the first bit of code in the following chapter, so copy it.
4. You will find another code snippet underneath the first one; copy it as well because you will also need it for the following chapter.
Your Squarespace site can be enhanced using Google Tag Manager
- Enter your Squarespace login information here.
- The website you want to add Tag Manager to should be selected.
- Click “Settings” “Advanced” “Code Injection” in the sidebar.
- Copy the code snippets from Google Tag Manager and paste them as shown in the illustration below:
- Click “Save” at the top of the page:
- I am done now!
Installing quality assurance
- Use Chrome to view the home page of your website.
- The Assistant Chrome Extension should be selected.
- Select “Enable”
- Click the Google Tag Assistant Chrome Extension once more after refreshing the page.
- A green tag for Tag Manager should appear, signifying that the installation was successful.
