Confirming your domain’s ownership in Facebook Business Manager

Goal of Facebook business manager:

Verifying your domain in Facebook Business Manager.

Ideal Result: Facebook is able to appropriately confirm that your website is yours.

Prerequisites or requirements: You should have set up a Business Manager account for your site as a prerequisite (you can follow SOP 010 to learn how to do that). Additionally, you will require access to your domain registrar (e.g. GoDaddy, Google Domains, Dreamhost, Siteground, Cloudflare, etc)

Why it is significant: There are other factors, but the Facebook updates regarding the arrival of iOS 14 are the key one. You can no longer configure more than 8 conversion events per website for tracking purposes in Facebook Ads; first, your domain must be verified.

Where to do this: Your domain registrar and Facebook Business Manager.

Once this is complete: prior to beginning any Facebook advertising efforts.

That person is: the person in charge of Facebook advertisements.

Activate Facebook Business Manager and add your domain

  1.  You can work on a specific account by going to your Facebook Business Manager dashboard and selecting it.
  2. Select “Business Settings” from the hamburger menu after clicking on the menu.

  1. Click “Domains” under “Brand Safety.”

  1. You must add the domain if you are verifying it for the first time for this Business Manager account.

  1. Click “Add Domain” after entering your domain’s URL.

  1. Three alternatives will be given to you to confirm your domain. We will perform DNS verification in this SOP.

Verification of DNS

  1.   Choose DNS Verification as the technique to validate your domain in Business Manager.

  1. Copy the TXT verification record that Facebook has provided.

  1. Visit the admin area or dashboard of your domain registrar.
  2. Navigate to the DNS records area. This can be found in some registrars’ “Domains” or “Manage domains” menus or links.

as in Dreamhost

as in Siteground

  1. Set up a fresh custom record (this will look slightly different depending on your registrar, but these are the general steps)

        a. Do not fill in the “Name” column.

        b. Choose the “Type” of a TXT record.

        c. Leave the “TTL” value as-is.

        d. Paste the data you copied from Facebook Ads under “Value.”

          For example: Dreamhost

         For example: Siteground

  1. Return to the Business Manager after adding your record and select “Verify.”

Note: The propagation of DNS records can take up to 48–72 hours. If Facebook is unable to verify your domain straight away, do not fear. Once a day, return and attempt to click the “Verify” button once more.

  1. After clicking “Verify,” you will get a confirmation after the DNS changes have taken effect.

Add the validated domain to your Facebook Page

  1.   After confirming your domain, click “Connected Assets” and then refresh the page.

  1. Select “Add Assets.”

  1. Click “Add” after choosing the right Facebook Page.
